blog neglect and banana cake

It's been a pretty exciting week, and 'blogneglect' is something I'm suffering from ever so slightly.

There's been a lot of eating, and ranting, and cake, and excitement, as I have turned 28, and turned into the sister of a Silver Fern, and broken my dating drought, and acquired an iPhone, and taken 3 days off work to have a food holiday here in Wellington.

My birthday was unexpectedly amazing. I was completely spoilt with awesome presents which were, incredibly, a perfect selection of my favourite things (nail polish, lipstick, kinfolk magazine, a Nigel Slater cookbook, a bottle of Tanqueray, a skull bracelet I'd been ogling, a bottle of bubbly, some homemade cards, a crisp banknote, fresh flowers, a massage, AND some cute tops). I also had some lovely messages, and then cooked a banging mushroom, spinach and blue cheese lasagne for some friends. That, and banoffee pie.

My friend Kitty made me a birthday cake, bless her. It was complete with candles and caramel sauce. It was so delicious, and the recipe was from here.

And with a bit of writing up to do for my Auckland Restaurant Month blog, I'm now in Wellington for the tail end of Wellington on a Plate. I've got dual-city-love-schitzophrenia and have already had a 7 course beer matched degustation dinner, 2 burgers, 4 coffees, and 7 oysters. So much eating, and blogging and fun to be had. I'm a little bit high on life really, and I'm going to be telling you all about it.
